Hello friends! I am Srisaravana, a casual poet and writer mostly exploring philosophical ideas about nature, life, death and the cosmos. This blog is a way of categorizing my writing so you can explore them and if you choose to, ponder about them too. English is not my native language, therefore I tend to write in simple English. If you are soul, trying to understand the meaning behind life and death, you will find my works interesting.

Me

I am from a small coastal town in the eastern part of Sri Lanka, where the lore of “the singing fish” is not a myth but a fact. My mother was a highly religious person, while my father was a “free for all” kind of person. He cared more about spirituality than some gods and rituals. I think he inspired me more than my mother in matters of spirituality. Not only that, he was also an avid bookkeeper. He built a home library with more than tens of hundreds of books to read. The odd thing is, he never read much, but he built a huge library of books and magazines ranging from novels to science to non-fiction to autobiographies – it had everything. It included a vast variety of religious texts too. Therefore, from my childhood, I had access to a plethora of books and materials on philosophy and spirituality.

My mother’s insistance on me following religion and the rituals was constant. I think, in a way, both of their ideas shaped me into looking at nature, life, death, for an extended matter – God with such a centered view. I learned both sides of the story.

My life was very simple when both of them were alive. Perhaps this is what made me ponder so much about life and death.

Writing

Most of the themes I explore in my writing, especially in poems are life, death and human feelings such as sadness, anger and love. Many of them are written in first person view – though some are not my own personal views. Many of my works are born out of a deep thought about something that has happened.

I hope that as a reader, you can understand what I am trying to convey and enjoy all the same.
